Innovative Professional Rugby 7s League Launches with Million Dollar Contest

Philadelphia, PA - The Super Sevens (S7), a new professional rugby league that will begin play in the summer of 2019, announces The Million Dollar Scrum. Men's and women's teams in three age categories are invited to register and compete in an online competition that will send twelve teams to Las Vegas for a winner take all showdown. The Million Dollar Scrum is to be held on Saturday, June 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. One million dollars in total prize money will be distributed among the six winning teams.

"This is an exciting and eye-catching launch for our new league and the wildly popular sport of Rugby Sevens, and I'm honored to carry on the vision of Jon Prusmack for professional rugby 7s in America," said David Niu, the President of S7 Rugby. "We are thrilled to offer this prize money to the winners and their respective programs, through a unique and engaging contest that helps to kick-start our new groundbreaking league."

To qualify for the "Scrum", all interested teams must complete an official registration form, and then rally their online votes. The 12 teams with the most votes will be invited to Las Vegas for the Million Dollar Scrum.

Games will be contested in 3 different categories for both men and women including club level, college, and high school. The full day of competition, which will feature the S7's new and innovative rules and methods, will be streamed and televised live over a full spectrum of media platforms. "The format is winner take all in each championship match," said Niu. "This will be a big payday for the victors, along with serving as an introduction to our upcoming Summer Series." Voting will begin on May 8 on the S7 official website with the balloting ending at 11:59 PM Est on June 4.

Fans and competitors can follow the tabulations live on the website at www.s7rugby.com All rules, restrictions and instructions regarding eligibility and voting can be found on the site as well. "These Million Dollar Scrum matches will debut our league's newly imagined rules and scoring system that we feel will attract a new generation of athletes and fans alike to the sport," said Niu, an accomplished international rugby competitor, coach and organizer. "We will pioneer a long-play form of rugby 7s with four 12-minute quarters, free substitutions, and more. Most important, S7s will be played with full gender equality." The league plans to form women's as well as men's teams in each of the franchise cities, with equal pay for all. "With the explosion in popularity of rugby 7s, the time is ripe for this new evolution of the sport, and the US is the right spot for it," said Niu.

The Million Dollar Scrum will lead the way to a series of city based events to be staged around the country this coming summer. Details will be released shortly.
